Growing up, summer dinners looked different.
Nobody wanted to stand over the stove for hours, and meals felt a little less structured. Windows stayed open, dinner happened later, and somehow something simple always tasted better when the sun stayed out longer.
This pasta feels like one of those dinners.
Linguine gets tossed in a buttery sauce built from softened mushrooms, sweet peas, fresh garlic, and just enough cream to make everything feel luxurious without becoming heavy. Lemon juice and zest brighten the whole thing, while Zest Friends Forever adds citrus and warmth that make the flavors feel finished rather than complicated. Chives at the end keep everything tasting fresh and garden-y.
It’s light enough for July and comforting enough to make you forget you’re eating vegetables.

Ingredients
-
1 pound linguine
-
8 tablespoons butter
-
2 cloves garlic, grated
-
12 ounces frozen peas
-
4 ounces baby bella mushrooms, thinly sliced
-
2 tablespoons heavy cream
-
1 lemon, juiced
-
1 tablespoon lemon zest
-
1 teaspoon Zest Friends Forever
-
Chives, finely chopped
-
Salt + black pepper
-
1 cup pasta water, reserved
Directions
Cook the pasta. Bring a large pot of water to a rapid boil, season generously with salt, add 1 pound linguine, and cook until al dente according to package directions. Before draining, reserve 1 cup of pasta water, then drain.
Build the base. While the pasta cooks, melt 8 tablespoons butter in a large skillet over medium heat, add 4 ounces thinly sliced baby bella mushrooms, and cook for 6–8 minutes until softened and lightly golden; stir in 2 grated garlic cloves and cook for another 30 seconds.
Make the sauce. Add 12 ounces frozen peas, 2 tablespoons heavy cream, the juice of 1 lemon, 1 tablespoon lemon zest, and 1 teaspoon Zest Friends Forever; stir and cook for 2–3 minutes, until the peas are warmed through, then season with salt and black pepper.
Finish the pasta. Add the drained linguine directly into the skillet and toss, adding reserved pasta water a splash at a time until the sauce becomes glossy and lightly coats the noodles.
Garnish and Serve. Finish with finely chopped chives, extra lemon zest, cracked black pepper, and optional parmesan cheese, then serve immediately.
Recipe Note
Considerations
Reserve the pasta water: This is what turns butter and cream into a silky sauce instead of leaving the noodles separated.
Let the mushrooms cook properly: At first, they release moisture—keep cooking until they start to brown.
Don’t fear the lemon: It should taste bright. Lemon mellows once it hits the warm pasta.
Season in layers: Salt the water, taste the sauce, then adjust at the end.
Parmesan is optional but encouraged: It adds saltiness and richness without overpowering the lemon.
